ABOUT BGDE
Women make up 25% of the STEM workforce, but less than 5% of the STEM workforce are women of color. Black Girls Do Engineer” is a group dedicated to developing young girls and women ages 6 to 21 in the STEM field. The nonprofit provides mentoring, personal growth regimens, and STEM projects, and activities.

Kara Branch is the Founder and CEO of Black Girls Do Engineer Corporation a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in June 2019 and located in Houston, TX. She is an alumnus of The Prairie View A&M University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and an Executive MBA degree. Black Girls Do Engineer was founded based on her personal experiences in the STEM industry and always wishing she had someone who looked like her to show her the way.
Kara started her career going directly into boardrooms with clients with her calculator walking them through her grassroots design projects. In her 6-year career, she has managed 15 plus improvement projects starting at $1 million to multi-million dollars in the Oil & Gas industry. Kara has also worked in aerospace and currently works in technology as an Engineering Manager.

The programs focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Robotics, Coding, College Preparation, and Financial Literacy. They are is designed to promote leadership, offer mentorship, critical thinking projects, STEM design and experiments, and life skills for all areas of STEM for stages 1 through 7. Workshops, events, challenges participation, and summer camps will be offered to target all-girls STEM interest areas.
The collegiate-level programs focus on leadership development, life skills, interview preparation, mentorship, mastering a career fair, training, and a sampling of careers.
All girls receive development in 12 disciplines:

- Computer Science and Programming
- Financial Literacy
- College prep

Donations are used for supplies and equipment for robotics, process design, science experiments, laptops for coding, networking events, and as well as funding for girls who may not be able to afford membership expenses. To donate directly, visit here.
